Welcome to Qualicum Beach Sanctuary and 2018!
This past year saw us changing our beautiful spaces from vacation to long term rentals, taking the time for me to settle into retirement (or not), healing time and joy with our family. In retrospection on the past year and looking forward to 2018, I feel a renewed energy in helping others heal and find healthy enjoyment in their life through a variety of experiences and activities.
This coming year, I will continue to work with existing and new clients in health and wellness therapy as well as offer individualized and small group Yoga Therapy and Yoga Teacher Trainings. I am lucky to offer these services out of Blackstone Saunas Qualicum Beach as well as in my home at our lovely Qualicum Beach Sanctuary. We are also offering infrared sauna sessions at our Qualicum Beach Blackstone Saunas location starting in February. Watch for training and special workshop announcements. As always, please feel free to contact me directly for health and wellness therapy, Reiki, Yoga Therapy and Yoga Teacher Trainings.
In addition to my in-person services, I have the wonderful arenas of this blog and our Facebook page to share personal healing and lifestyle experiences online. I’ll explore my golf, skiing, biking, dance experiences, and photographic hobby on my instagram account @drkathiemblack
Thank you for loyally following our experiences and asking your own health and wellness questions. I look forward to sharing a healthy 2018 with you!
Dr. Black is thrilled to announce her return to Health and Wellness Therapy after a break this past year. This lovely practice includes Yoga Therapy, Talk Therapy, Reiki, and Meditation. She is also continuing to offer her Yoga Teacher Trainings and Reiki Trainings on self-designed schedules for individuals and small groups. Currently, she is developing a lovely practice space in conjunction with Blackstone Saunas Qualicum Beach and hopes to have the new space up and running within the next couple of months. In the meantime, she is offering these services at her home location. Watch for a series of group Yoga Therapy sessions in late afternoons on Tuesday and Thursday and private appointments also on those afternoons. Thank you for your patience as Dr. Black rebuilds this website. Feel free to contact her for more information on Health and Wellness Therapy, Reiki Sessions and Training, and Yoga Teacher or Yoga Therapy Training!
Hello followers and prospective clients and students:
It has been an interesting year at Qualicum Beach Sanctuary. We have officially moved from vacation rentals in our lovely space to full time, long term tenants. We’d like to thank all our vacation guests that added such summer joy to our home and property. We have some amazing long term tenants and are pleased to have officially downsized in our own home.
Dr. Black is offering private Reiki treatments and trainings as well as individualized yoga teacher and yoga therapy trainings. Her 200 Basic, 300 Hour Advanced, and Wellness 500 Hour Yoga Teacher Trainings are registered with the Yoga Alliance and are offered on an individual or small group basis out of her home. She is also offering her 1,000 hour Yoga Therapist Training that is registered with the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). This is a two-three year programme taught on an individual basis mentor/mentee basis only. Please contact Dr. Black directly to arrange your programme.
As this warm summer swiftly leads into the cold winter months, now is a great time to reflect and explore the possibilities of incorporating a long term yoga and meditation practice into your life. Dr. Black can help you in your journey of a well lived and healthy lifestyle!
Welcome! As many of you are aware we closed our Heat to Heal Studio doors in June of 2016 and have transformed our lovely home and property into a Vacation Rental Sanctuary. Dr. Black continues to offer private yoga teacher trainings by arrangement for groups of 3-5 people and will add great health and wellness posts to our site. Please feel free to follow us on Facebook at Qualicum Beach Sanctuary. We are currently rebuilding our website, so thank you for your patience. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact us!
Welcome back to the work week. You may have noticed we didn’t post from Friday-Sunday. That will be the way some weeks are. We encourage you during those times to go back over the previous posts and apply them in your life. You may find an entirely new perspective on the tip!
Yes, that’s right – the wall. So many of us only think of walls as the dividers between rooms or the perfect surface for that great piece of artwork, but the wall can be one of your best therapy tools. In several of our Yin, Restorative, or Therapy classes, we use the wall for almost the full practice. You can help your entire body through a series of stretches with the solidity of the wall, but for today, let’s just work on one. Legs up the wall. Sit down with your right hip up against the wall and your feet and legs extended at 90 degrees to the wall. Lie down on your side and swivel your legs up the wall finishing with lying on your back. You may have to practice this a couple of times to get it, but once you do, it’ll be easier every time. Be sure your buttocks are right up against the wall and your legs are a 90 degree angle up the wall. You can use a folded blanket under your hips if the floor is too hard – or if getting up and down off the floor is too difficult for you, use your bed and put your legs up the wall above your headboard. If your hamstrings are really tight, you can lie on the floor and put your legs on a chair, ottoman, or the sofa. Try to stay here for at least 15 minutes. This one pose will help your legs drain all that built up fluid back to your lymph system for processing out of the body. I actually routinely practice this pose in our infrared sauna. The added heat of the infrared and the healing properties of this pose are pretty amazing. For those of you who cannot have your feet above your head (i.e. you get dizzy or have a health condition that restricts this), then use the chair or simply put your feet up on a bolster or pillow. Whenever you’ve been on your feet all day – or sitting – or traveling, get home or to your hotel room and get those legs up the wall! Please feel free to book an appointment with us or attend one of our restorative classes and we can teach you this pose and give you more information on the benefits.
